The Projects Accountant will play a critical role in providing financial support and ensuring accurate accounting and reporting for all capital expenditure (capex) and project-related activities within the company. This role involves budgeting, forecasting, performance monitoring and developing financial models while acting as a trusted Finance Business Partner to the project teams. Ideal candidates will have strong analytical skills, advanced Excel proficiency and experience in project accounting, with a focus on delivering actionable insights and driving financial success.

What you will do
- Establish yourself as an integrated and effective Finance Business Partner for the projects team.
- Support the Project Managers and PMO with weekly/monthly reporting, month-end results, and rolling forecasts.
- Collaborate with Project Managers to ensure accountability for performance, activities and costs.
- Monitor planned vs. actual costs, focusing on rates, hours, and deliverables against Statements of Work (SOWs).
- Conduct weekly reviews of timesheet data and project costs with the PMO to understand variances and inform and improve budget assumptions going forward.
- Own Project reporting on Vena. Learn how the system works, how to maintain and build new templates, how to troubleshoot issues etc.
- Assist Project Managers and the PMO with NetSuite and Vena-related project requests.
- Provide training and guidance on financial and modelling practices relevant to project management.
- Own the annual capex and project budgeting process in Vena, including monthly and quarterly forecasts and planning.
- Analyse project plans, weekly progress, and actual performance, adjusting costs and forecasts as needed to ensure expected costs to complete are updated and understood. It is important to be aware of any deviations from plans so that these can be called out early and change requests prepared and approved.
- Prepare and post project-related journals, including accruals, corrections, and reconciliations for project-related GL accounts.
- Own the capitalisation of assets, amortisation and depreciation processes within NetSuite.
- Prepare and review monthly financial reports, addressing discrepancies ahead of finalising month-end, ensuring variations from projects plans are understood and can be explained in the monthly Portfolio Board.
- Collaborate with Project Managers and other key project stakeholders within the business to effectively compile business cases and project plans for submission to the Investment Board. This will include analysis of required costs and resources as well as relevant pricing models for consideration. It is important that relevant financial materials are prepared and reviewed with the Head of Finance – Systems and Projects ahead of Investment Board review and discussion.
- Develop benchmarking tools, case studies, and references for costs, efficiencies, and profit margins to enhance project planning and execution at ElectraLink.
- Help enhance and refine continually evolving project reporting for presentation to the business and the EL Board.
- Review and ensure the quality of project plans, staffing and direct cost structures for project budgets and forecasts. Utilise these plans for cost monitoring, performance analysis, and reporting.
What you'll need
- Extensive experience in financial modelling, reporting, and investment analysis.
- Understanding of agile project management, including philosophy, planning, performance measurement, and reporting.
- Proven experience in planning, accounting, managing, and reporting on revenue-generating and intangible asset creation projects.
- Expertise in data-driven and insights-based projects.
- Highly numerate with exceptional accuracy and analytical skills.
- Ability to work effectively under tight deadlines.
- Confident communicator, skilled in liaising with both internal and external stakeholders.
- Self-starter with the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel, including functions such as INDEX MATCH, LOOKUPs, filters, and other modelling techniques.
