What are we looking for?
As part of the Techscaler delivery plan, which aims to increase the number of successful startups across Scotland, we’re looking for someone with experience working in a startup or a scaleup to lead our education offering to growing tech businesses.
Education is a key part of our work to grow the value of the tech industry in Scotland. We design and deliver a variety of education offerings including online, self-paced learning, live cohort programmes, and specialist education delivered by partner organisations, to entrepreneurs, startups and scaleups at all stages of their business journey. At present, our key scaleup education programme is delivered through a partnership with specialist Silicon valley-based provider, Reforge. We are looking to increase the impact of the partnership, through increasing the number of scaleup employees joining, and through increased Scotland-based community building for scaleup operators. We are currently running a variety of pilot projects, both in partnership and in house, including the Techscaler Funding Accelerator, group coaching for employees, and International programmes to Singapore and Silicon Valley. A key part of the Programme Manager’s role will also be to evaluate the success of these initiatives, and identify where there are additional gaps and opportunities for further growth stage and scaleup education provision.
This role would most suit a resourceful, organised and community-minded person who is able to work most effectively within a small, supportive team. You’ll be as comfortable supporting participants to meet and exceed their learning goals as you are managing the logistics of programme delivery.
You'll be energised by working with people from a range of different backgrounds, perspectives and skill sets to create and deliver programmes for Scotland's diverse pool of startup founders, potential founders and technology workers.
You don’t need to have had direct experience of startup playbook theory or delivering education programmes, but we are looking for someone who has worked in a technology startup or scaleup who understands some of the unique elements of this type of business. You may have worked in customer success, growth, sales, product, engineering, HR or any other business area, we don’t believe this matters as much as enthusiasm for wanting to support the building of the Scottish tech ecosystem.
What will you be doing?
- Working with the Startup Programmes team to expand and mature our Techscaler offering to growing tech businesses; including a partnership with Reforge, International connectivity programmes (to date locations have includes Singapore and Silicon Valley), and iterating on pilot projects being run at the moment (Funding Accelerator, Group Coaching, Scaleup Masterclasses)
- Line management of a programme coordinator
- Working to identify the education needs and opportunities for tech scaleups across Scotland, and then to design the necessary programmes to meet those needs.
- Working with expert contributors and other third parties to commission educational content, including live workshops, pre-recorded video and written learning resources
- Supporting learners throughout their journey: before, during and after programme participation
- Designing accessible learning experiences which include a diverse range of speakers and engage participants from groups which are currently underrepresented in the tech startup ecosystem
- Working with the rest of the Startup Programmes Team to continuously improve content, cohort engagement and delivery approaches
- Working with the Mentorship Team to ensure learners have access to appropriate, high quality mentorship that supports their main challenges
- Working with the Community team to connect learners with each other and with the wider technology ecosystem
- Working with the Marketing team to engage with the tech scaleup community across Scotland to raise awareness, attract programme participants and celebrate learner achievements
- Collecting appropriate data and feedback to improve uptake, engagement, and foster positive learning outcomes
- Reporting on the programmes to key stakeholders
What do we need from you?
- 2+ years of experience working in a tech startup or scaleup, with an understanding of the nature of business operations at these stages
- Experience of communicating in front of others through coaching, mentoring, public speaking or teaching
- Experience of using excellent prioritisation skills to manage a programme or project with multiple deliverables and stakeholders
- Demonstrable ability to improve products or services based on feedback, data and changing learner or user needs
- An interest in tech startups and their business journey and growth opportunities
- Experience managing delivery partners (e.g. event speakers, programme contributors, etc.)
- Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skill Please also tell us if you have:
- Learning design experience (including live, pre-recorded, cohort-based or other types of learning)
- Community management or engagement experience
- Qualitative or quantitative data gathering and analysis skills
- An understanding of startup and venture building practices - e.g. lean principles, market validation, funding, etc.
What will you get?
- £45k per annum
- 4 day working week (please note that this role will require out of hours working from time to time for which you will receive time off in lieu)
- 23 days holiday + 2 weeks off over Christmas and New Year
- 10% employer pension contribution on Qualifying Earnings
- 12 weeks maternity or paternity leave at full pay
- Bupa private medical and dental insurance
