Job Description
As a Principal Technical Artist (UI) at Ubi MTL, you will play a key role in creating a UI for a AAA game, focused on both striking aesthetics and optimal performance.
You will bridge the worlds of art and programming by acting as an interpreter and problem-solver. You will enable artists and programmers to collaborate effectively throughout the project within budget and schedule constraints, using appropriate tools and pipelines.
With a strong artistic vision and deep technical mastery, you will ensure every UI element meets AAA performance standards, taking hardware limitations and player needs into account. You will define benchmarks while conducting research and integrating innovative solutions that position the UI among the best in the industry.
What you will do
- Develop and implement technical and artistic solutions for the UI, including creating materials and advanced special effects.
- Establish clear and efficient pipelines and create optimized UI libraries to support autonomous pod-based teams.
- Prototype features in collaboration with UI artists to reflect their intent.
- Test and set benchmarks for UI elements through research and rigorous testing.
- Integrate, debug, and optimize UI elements in the Snowdrop engine, guiding practices for optimal performance.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to balance aesthetic quality and technical functionality.
- Monitor UI best practices, tools, and trends to provide teams with modern, scalable tools.
- Investigate, develop, and implement experimental solutions, defining new industry standards.
- Maintain a player-focused vision throughout the project, optimizing the user experience with smooth, dynamic interfaces.
Qualifications
What you bring to the team
- Several years of experience in similar technical roles in the video game industry, ideally on AAA productions.
- Expertise in UI, material creation and optimization, technical production flows, and advanced artistic solutions.
- Proficiency in C#, design tools like Adobe Creative Suite, and proven familiarity with game engines such as Snowdrop or Unreal.
- Deep knowledge of dynamic UI systems (e.g., inventories, interactive interfaces for live services).
- Ability to define artistic and technical guidelines while fostering smooth collaboration between departments.
- Experience addressing performance challenges on next-generation consoles.
- A willingness to share knowledge to improve the working methods of a multidisciplinary and multicultural team.
