We are looking for a Principal Estimator (Major Programme) to join our Project Controls team at AWE Nuclear Security Technologies.

Package: From £62,440, this is open to negotiation dependant on experience

Location: RG7 4PR, located between Reading and Basingstoke

Introducing the Role:

As a Principal Estimator you will be a key member of the Cost Estimating and Modelling Team providing specialist subject matter expertise, driving the implementation of Estimating, cost management and Project Controls within our projects and programmes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Acting as the lead estimator and SME as set by the Head of Estimating and/or Programme Lead
  • Maintaining an effective estimating service to meet business needs
  • Planning, developing, and approving estimating deliverables
  • Developing and maintaining key relationships
  • Leading on validation reviews, assurance, and audit
  • Advocating for robust estimating and integrated cost management
  • Developing training and development material
  • Coaching, mentoring, and functional development
  • Developing and supporting continuous improvement and cost benchmarking activities
  • Managing interfaces with the Project Controls Management, Commercial, and Head of Estimating

We’d Love to See:

  • Extensive experience at a senior or lead level, integrating information, functions, and teams driving cost and estimating outcomes
  • Experience with large projects, programmes, and working within a project controls environment, including stakeholder engagement at all levels
  • Able to understand and interpret project controls artefacts, as well as conduct review and assurance activities
  • Co-ordinating a team, developing/deploying processes and tools
  • Experience working within construction, engineering, or regulated environments (MOD/Defence/Nuclear/Regulated)
  • Good technical review skills, risk software experience
  • Building great relationships and engaging with people across the organisation
  • Juggling priorities and delivering within demanding timescales
  • Supporting/developing key artefacts such as business cases, gate review estimates, or pre-tender estimates
  • Problem-solving and reaching conclusions
  • Professional body membership CaSA, APM, RICS, CIOB, or chartership engineer is highly desirable
