We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior or Principal Power Systems Engineer to join our firm. This role can be in any our Bristol, Cardiff, Exeter or Plymouth offices.
To help support Hoare Lea in our continued development in our Infrastructure and mission critical system data centre projects across UK and Europe. The role will involve Power systems analysis on HV, MV and LV distribution for small and large scales Infrastructure / data centre and other mission critical projects.

What You’ll Be Doing
- You will be working on a varied portfolio of projects both in the UK and Internationally.
- Undertaking design calculations for assessing electrical loads on buildings sizing utility connections, generators, uninterruptible power supplies and renewable technologies, together with associated earthing and distribution systems
- Design and calculations of substations and points of connections from LV to HV
- Load flow, fault level, G5/5 harmonic and protection studies.
- Earth rise touch and potential studies.
- Have the ability of using a variety of software including CAD electrical ETAP, Amtech or EOM.
- Responsible for dealing successfully with Clients and other professionals
- Define and agree brief with Client
- Contribute to the professional development of individual team members.
- Actively leads self and identifies opportunities and providing support for career development of others
- Ensure quality standards and technical accuracy is delivered.
What We Are Looking For
- Conversant in power systems high voltage substation design, earthing arrangements, CT calculations, arc flash calculations, differential protection and stability slopes etc and rate of rise voltage calculations.
- Experience in relevant design software including ETAP or similar software and Amtech or EOM LV system analysis software to model complex networks and run advanced power systems studies.
- Power quality capability to undertake studies for G99 export applications, including Harmonics.
- Have the ability in producing schematic designs, fault discrimination studies preparing specifications and reports and carrying out site inspections of surveys and detailed design development is crucial a passion for accurate power design systems is key
- Ability to carry out studies such as G5/5 harmonics, load flow, fault studies,transient studies and protection coordination studies .
- Further experience regarding network resilience analysis would be beneficial, linked to the mitigation or failure modes and single points of failure’.
- Good communication skills
- Autonomous approach: able to lead small to medium sized projects and able to take a brief from the project lead on large projects and deliver & control the tasks required
- Appreciation of client needs, with the ability to face clients
- Relevant industry experience.
- European or Ireland Power systems experience is beneficial for this position.
