We have an incredible opportunity to join us here at Phoenix Group as a Portfolio Analyst within our Macro Markets team, as part of our Asset Management team.

Context

The Macro Markets team within Phoenix Asset Management (AM) is responsible for the interest rate, inflation and foreign exchange risks on Phoenix’s shareholder balance sheet with the expectation to extend activities wider beyond shareholder. Asset classes cover government bonds and derivatives in GBP and non-GBP.  There is a focus on Solvency II driven investment, hedging strategies, portfolio management and implementing derivatives and liquidity solutions.

The team is also responsible for supporting Bulk Purchase Annuity (BPA) origination and facilitating liquid credit trading and illiquid credit investments.

The Role

Analyst level role in a new and growing team. An excellent learning and growth opportunity, it is a generalist role covering a broad variety of the team’s activities across the in-force balance sheet, new assets and BPA transactions. Progression towards portfolio management and trading duties.

Key Responsibilities

  • Running portfolio and hedging analysis for various investment and portfolio management workstreams.
  • Working on project related tasks revolving around building the new team’s capabilities and processes.
  • Supporting portfolio managers in trade design and implementation.
  • Preparing and presenting reporting materials.
  • Modelling new transactions across assets and liabilities.
  • Working alongside and collaborating with other teams in Asset Management and the wider organization.
  • Acquiring more in-depth knowledge on investments and risk management in a Solvency II driven insurance balance sheet.

What we’re ideally looking for

Skills

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Highly motivated, able to learn quickly and handle tight deadlines.
  • Knowledge of fixed income and derivatives (rates) products and markets.
  • Knowledge of insurance or LDI portfolio management.
  • Strong modelling with MS Excel, Python skills desirable.

Experience

  • Analyst or junior trader with experience in a portfolio management or trading team at an insurer, asset manager or investment bank.
  • Experience producing accurate and reliable analysis for transactional and risk management purposes.
  • Experience in longer term projects.
  • Exposure to market facing activities with some execution ideal.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.
