Main Responsibilities

This role has a primary focus of making sure our server estate here at BBC Wales is as robust and secure as possible. You will be responsible for setting up and ensuring all Windows updates are successfully deployed across our broadcast estate.
Ensuring all changes are robustly tested and documented, following our Change process. You will have experience of converting design documents into live execution as well as writing and reviewing design and implementation documentation.
You will have ownership of certain systems and platforms and therefore have deep technical knowledge and experience in implementing and troubleshooting.
This is an office / onsite-based role. You will be engaging with external 3rd party vendors, and the wider business, attending meetings, and working with all stakeholders. You must be comfortable putting your face around the business, have your voice heard, and bring ideas to the table.

As an Operations Engineer, you will be part of a support team working on a 24/7 rota pattern, with the goal of providing excellent technical services to all of the teams based in Wales that use our services.
• Working on a 24/7/365 shift pattern to provide Operational support for industry leading systems and applications used to produce BBC Wales output .
• Use a diverse range of monitoring tools to spot service impacting issues.
• Technical diagnosis and resolution of incidents impacting live services.
• Logging all incidents accurately and documenting investigative activities. Managing incident and escalating as appropriate and as per defined processes.
• Implementing appropriate contingency procedures in response to planned or unexpected events.
• Ensure efficient and appropriate communication to key stakeholders through the incident lifecycles.
• Thorough handover of incident and environmental information through shift changes.
• Collaborate with the wider Technology and operations teams including developers and editors to ensure best operational practice
• Work on improving our documentation and processes – ensuring all learning is shared and improving the support team as a whole.
• Keeping abreast of operational changes in a fluid environment, ensuring that actions are taken in line with current best practice.
• Commitment to continuous improvement – working creatively to improve working practices.
Are you the right candidate?
We are looking for a self-motivated, confident Broadcast Engineer who ideally has experience in an operational support role and is comfortable with broadcast technologies. The individual should be flexible in their approach to work and imaginative in finding solutions to business challenges.
The ideal candidate will have experience in some of the following criteria:
Essential Criteria
• Experience of setting up & supporting virtual servers using VMWARE
• 3+ Years experience supporting Windows Server 2009 and above to 3rd line, including solid Windows Clustering.
• Experience of setting up/ automating and maintaining Microsoft Windows Updates using SCCM.
• Good Working knowledge using Linux
• Knowledge of using and maintaining Quantam Storage platforms.
