Job Purpose
The BBC is committed to ensuring the highest standards of governance, integrity, and operational excellence across all areas of its work. The newly created Investigative Operations Manager role reflects the organisation’s focus on strengthening governance, action tracking, and process monitoring in response to evolving business needs. This pivotal role, reporting into the Group Head of Investigations and Whistleblowing will work fluidly alongside the Head of Corporate Investigations and Head of Whistleblowing, adapting to the organisation’s priorities and playing a central part in maintaining transparency and accountability.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
As Investigative Operations Manager, your responsibilities will include:
· Governance and Compliance: Manage and uphold governance frameworks to ensure investigations are conducted transparently, ethically, and consistently. Monitor adherence to policies and regulations while identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.
· Action Tracking and Accountability: Own and develop the robust action-tracking mechanisms to monitor the progress of whistleblowing recommendations, ensuring organisational follow-through and accountability.
· Process Optimisation: Continuously assess and enhance investigative and whistleblowing processes to improve efficiency, effectiveness, and organisational resilience.
· Data-Driven Leadership: Lead on metric-focused reporting, risk landscape analysis, and the creation of risk and horizon scanning intelligence dashboards. Use data visualisation tools and advanced analytics to inform decision-making, track trends, and identify vulnerabilities across the organisation.
· Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to promote trust and maintain high standards of professionalism and confidentiality.
· Policy Development and Training: Contribute to the development of policies and training programs that address systemic risks, mitigate vulnerabilities, and foster a culture of accountability and ethical behaviour.
· Collaborative Leadership: Work in close partnership with the Head of Corporate Investigations and Head of Whistleblowing to ensure seamless coordination and alignment across all investigative and governance activities.
· Corporate Investigations and Whistleblowing Oversight: Support investigations into cases of misconduct and malpractice across both editorial and non-editorial contexts as needed, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory standards, including the Public Interest Disclosure Act (PIDA).
· Flexible Operational Role: Act as a flexible resource capable of stepping into different investigative and governance-related priorities as required by the business.
Knowledge, Skills, Training & Experience
To succeed in this dynamic role, you will need:
· Whistleblowing and Investigations Qualified: PIP 2 or equivalent qualified with at least three years relevant experience in a corporate setting. Comprehensive knowledge of UK legislation, including PIDA and other relevant regulations, as well as experience of handling sensitive investigations.
· Process Improvement Skills: Demonstrated ability to design, monitor, and refine processes to deliver measurable improvements in efficiency and impact.
· Communication and Relationship-Building: Exceptional interpersonal skills to navigate complex stakeholder relationships and maintain trust in sensitive matters.
· Commitment to Integrity: A strong ethical mindset with the ability to manage challenging situations with discretion, fairness, and professionalism.
· Strategic Agility: Proven ability to adapt to changing business needs and operate fluidly across diverse functions, ensuring alignment with organisational priorities and BBC values.
· Governance Expertise: Strong understanding of governance principles and experience in implementing frameworks to enhance accountability and transparency.
· Technological Proficiency: Expertise in using data-driven tools, AI enhanced operations, analytics platforms, and dashboard creation to produce actionable insights and enhance risk monitoring.
