This is an exciting opportunity to join the leadership team within World Service News. Reporting into the BBC News Global Director, the Head of Strategic Planning and Delivery will be accountable for the oversight and direction of a strategic, financial and governance activities needed to plan and deliver the global strategy for the World Service group. Creating opportunities with other parts of the BBC like BBC Studios, to maximise the impact of BBC News globally.
Main Responsibilities
• Identify and align the activities and change initiatives required to achieve the World Service group strategic objectives specifically reach and revenue goals. Recommend routes to market and monitor in response to changes in progress, strategic objectives, financial constraints, timelines, and changing organisational circumstances.
• Oversee and contribute to the development and delivery of pitch material to support funding and Charter contributions for the group, incorporating the potential need for iterative re-planning and cost-effective measurement mechanisms.
• Ensure appropriate corporate governance and assurance across the Group in order to safeguard realisation of benefits, delivery of strategic projects ensuring alignment with both World Service Group and the BBC’s strategic objectives.
• Provide integrated business performance insight and monitoring for the World Service, to support timely decisions that optimise the successful achievement of strategic goals.
• Working with subject matter experts on the interpretation of data and the best ways of tracking performance when reporting to stakeholders.
• Follow the BBC project management approach and lead the professional job family.
• Promote value, define competency and provide opportunities to enhance professional capability and wider business literacy in project delivery and sponsorship.
• Work with key stakeholders and strategic partners including the News and Current Affairs Transformation Director, the News COO leadership team and leadership teams in BBC Studios, CCOG and Strategy, to ensure that key initiatives and activities receive expert support during shaping and execution to improve the chances of success.
• Provide inspirational leadership and support career development and talent retention.
• Contribute to the wider development and leadership of the division, promoting and championing collaboration, creativity and diversity.
Are You The Right Candidate
Essential
• As an expert in their field, they will provide professional leadership and act as role model to their teams and colleagues.
• Adept at managing numerous, diverse senior and executive level stakeholders, often operating under tight timescales and managing numerous competing priorities.
• Experience of operating at a senior level in the public sector and/or dealing with external/governmental stakeholders.
• A convincing and persuasive communicator, required to modify beliefs and opinions of teams, as well as senior stakeholders, able to establish effective and collaborative relations across BBC departments, and external agencies/stakeholders where required.
• Act as the conduit to effective communication and influence across the management team.
• Possesses a strong understanding of the media sector and BBC competitors, and the relevant in-depth knowledge of current industry trends and issues relating to their functional area.
• A deep functional/technical expert with broad and comprehensive understanding of theories, systems and practices relevant to their functional area.
• Strong awareness of the way in which programmes are commissioned, financed and produced.
• Broad and comprehensive understanding of all BBC regulatory and contractual obligations as they pertain to their functional area.
• Extensive experience in managing significant budgets and understanding key financial drivers.
