This is an interesting and varied in house opportunity for a Head of Legal to lead, own, oversee and actively participate in the commercial contract process from contract development, review, negotiation and execution.

What you will do

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Provide strategic leadership and direction to the legal department
  • Shape and implement the legal strategy to best support the growing business
  • Manage and develop a small legal team to service the business and effectively manage legal and regulatory risk
  • Partner with the business as trusted advisor confidently building excellent and successful relationships with key stakeholders across the business
  • Review, draft, negotiate and advise on contractual terms including complex Data Agreements, Procurement Agreements, Sales Agreements (including standard terms), Services Agreements, Bid Submissions and Development Agreements
  • Share knowledge and deliver training to the wider business on contractual and broader commercial legal issues
  • Develop and maintain contract precedents and playbooks
  • Improve and implement legal policies and processes to best meet the requirements of the business

What you'll need

Key skills:
  • Be a service-oriented individual with previous experience of managing a legal team focused on and driven by developing a small, highly effective team
  • Have excellent relationship management and confident communication skills necessary for interaction with internal and external customers
  • Be a highly skilled commercial contracts lawyer
  • Be an England and Wales qualified solicitor
  • Previous experience working in-house, ideally within the data, technology or energy sectors
  • Be comfortable prioritising and delivering large workloads to time constraints
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Previous managerial experience within an in-house or private practice team
  • Be a natural team player with exceptional attention to detail
  • A willingness to manage your own administration requirements
  • The ability to deliver advice and training confidently and clearly
  • The ability to partner with the business, combining sound legal advice informed by comprehensive understanding of products and strategy
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement skills with resilience and ability to interact with people at all levels in a constructive, polite and engaging manner
  • Company secretarial experience would be useful but not essential.
