The Head of Growth and Commercial Development, Factual will develop and implement strategic plans to ensure BBCS Factual diversifies revenue streams, creates new routes to market, drives audience engagement through multiple revenue streams and expands our portfolio through strategic partnership and inorganic growth.
This is a critical position that supports editorial and commercial teams across BBCS Productions (BBCSP) Factual genre, maximising opportunities to grow revenues, increasing profit, driving innovation, building a roster of new customers and talent / labels for BBCS Factual. This position focusses on a growth mindset, driving new forms of revenue and opportunity to support the growth of Factual at BBC Studios.
Main Responsibilities
Identify, articulate and drive activity to support new funding models and routes to market for BBCS Factual
• Identify new areas of growth for Factual, developing market relationships, go to market strategy / approach and assess capability in respect to these market opportunities.
• Create clear strategic roadmaps and partner with commercial teams within Units/Labels on their approach to any new areas.
• Implement and manage rollout of any new opportunities, ensuring consistent commercial framework, terms, operations.
• Identify, share and update all Factual on developments in the wider industry in these areas.
• Examples: immersive production / live event production, AR/VR production, impact/philanthropic funding, independent equity financing models.
Identify new partnership opportunities to deliver inorganic growth
• Partner with MD and Director of M&A Corp Dev BBCSP to define, agree and implement a corporate development strategy for BBCS Factual.
• Identify and bring in opportunities to drive growth, from startups, strategic partnerships or potential M&A working directly with talent and engaging with advisors / representatives of companies/individuals.
• Manage the evaluation of corporate transactions and potential M&A opportunities including market research, target evaluation and selection preparing detailed analysis as required.
• Partner with BBCSP Director of M&A Corp Dev on all aspects of deal-making in respect to potential M&A and strategic partnerships.
• Provide coaching to increase awareness of commercial frameworks and M&A activity to other stakeholders within BBC Studios Factual.
• Assess competitor landscape, benchmarking our activity vs competitors,
• Deliver opportunities for strategic partnerships with talent, IP holders exploring potential for new production partnerships.
Partner with existing BBC Studios Lines of Business To Drive New Revenue / Strategic Opportunities for Factual
• Partner with BBCS digital teams to drive forward strategy for BBC Earth digital.
• Partner with BBCS CP&L teams to explore and expand opportunities for ancillary revenue (licensing) and original.
• Opportunities in gaming, live events and digital products.
• Partner with advertising sales teams to explore and deliver opportunities / ways of working across brand funded content.
Be part of Factual Leadership team
• In collaboration with key professional areas (Finance, Business Affairs, etc) ensure business performance and progress against plan is clearly presented to Managing Director(s)/Genre Head(s), HQ members, etc in a timely manner.
• Manage relationships with key partners, building strong relationships and deliver best possible long-term return.
• Upskill other teams through the free flow of information and insight and a highly collaborative approach.
• Contribute to the wider development and leadership of the division, promoting and championing collaboration, creativity and diversity.

• Strong experience of alternative funding models whether digital, advertiser funded or philanthropic funding.
• Outstanding communication skills both written, oral and presentation.
• Strong analytical skills and intellectual rigour applied to decision making with the ability to think strategically about complex issues, to solve problems and unlock new opportunities in partner organisations.
• A mix of strong commercial skills, and creative instinct who can represent the world leading IP and storytelling capability.
• Experience of building and analysing business plans and communicating effectively through financial analysis.
• Possesses outstanding understanding of the Media sector and BBC competitors, and the relevant in-depth knowledge of current industry trends and issues relating to their functional area.
• A deep functional/technical expert with broad and comprehensive understanding of theories, systems and practices relevant to their functional area.

Salary: £108,000 - £126,000 (with bonus) depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.
