Job Description
As a Game Director on Far Cry, you will transform a creative vision into a variety of systems and mechanics that combine to create a compelling game experience. You will convey high-level direction to your team so they can design the game features they own, and give them the flexibility to experiment and iterate.
While the design team focuses on their specialties, you will care for the big picture, overseeing the overall outcome: progression, pacing, balance and, of course, game quality. You will ensure that all design-related elements work together coherently to match the intended experience and that the experience is fun.
What you will do:
- Work with creative leadership and members of the executive team to define the game and unify visions;
- Develop your game design vision and communicate (and advocate for) it within production;
- Support your game designers in developing features (e.g., gameplay mechanics, progression systems, combat systems, weapon attributes, AI behaviors, 3C, etc.) and provide mentorship and constructive feedback to reach quality;
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure cohesion across conceptual, technical, art and narrative elements;
- Evaluate and discuss budgets and schedules with the Producer and keep the production team informed of progress and milestones;
- Adapt to technical and production constraints, feedback and playtest results by adjusting design direction as needed;
- Track features post-launch to improve, add or remove elements and interpret data to inform decisions;
- Occasionally travel locally and internationally to present the game, meet external partners, visit co-development studios, etc.;
- Anticipate technological advances and stay informed of market trends to evolve production processes and define best practices + share them across studios.
Qualifications:
- Approximately 7 years of game design or relevant experience + 3 years of leadership;
- Deep knowledge of game engines (e.g., Unity or Unreal) and their limitations, Photoshop and Office suite (notably Excel and PowerPoint);
- Degree in game design or equivalent;
- Innovative, empathetic, creative and collaborative mindset;
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, presentation, problem-solving, organizational and mentoring skills;
- Critical thinking, curiosity, resourcefulness and high flexibility;
- Ability to analyze data and draw meaningful conclusions;
- Knowledge of online gaming communities and streaming platforms (e.g., Twitch);
- Broad market understanding and strong passion for video games.
What to send:
- Your CV highlighting education, experience, skills and shipped games if applicable.
