Position Description: As a Game Designer (Systems and Balancing) at Ubisoft Montréal, you will design and balance the game systems that define progression, pacing, and difficulty. The main focus of the role is on system balancing to ensure a consistent, readable, and satisfying experience for players. You will work closely with Level Design and Game Direction within a small multidisciplinary team.

What You'll Do:

  • Balance gameplay systems including playable characters, weapons, abilities, enemies, and bosses
  • Own and refine balancing, progression curves, levels, experience points, upgrades, and reward pacing
  • Balance the in-game economy, including currencies and rewards
  • Write and maintain detailed design documentation and balancing pipelines
  • Integrate and adjust balancing parameters directly in Unity
  • Analyze playtest reports and turn feedback into concrete actions
  • Iterate quickly by testing adjustments and measuring their impact
  • Regularly play the game and provide constructive feedback to improve quality and player experience
  • Collaborate closely with Level Design and Associate Game Direction to fine-tune pacing and balancing

Qualifications: What You Bring to the Team:

  • Excellent understanding of roguelite and roguelike pillars, including loop, progression, pacing, and build variety
  • Strong expertise in systems and progression balancing
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and balancing tools
  • Autonomy, rigor, and ease in rapid iteration cycles
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in French and English
  • Ability to work effectively within a small multidisciplinary team
  • Experience with Unity, or willingness to adapt quickly
