Job Introduction

The BBC is seeking a senior editorial leader to guide and drive our use of Generative AI technology in content creation and production.

Generative AI technology has the potential to have a significant impact on content creation and production, and the BBC is already actively exploring how to harness these capabilities responsibly to support our public mission.

This new wave of technology brings unique editorial challenges for the BBC - an organisation committed to upholding accuracy and impartiality across all its work. Navigating these risks while seizing the opportunity to innovate is at the heart of this role.

This role will lead our editorial strategy for the BBC’s future use of Generative AI. You will assess how GenAI can support new forms of creativity. You will work as part of the wider GenAI team to shape the organisation’s approach across multiple formats and genres. And you will work closely with colleagues across the BBC to ensure all work adheres to clear editorial standards and values.

Main Responsibilities

  • Lead all editorial aspects of the BBC's adoption of Generative AI, including pilots, tools, licensing, and industry impact, ensuring alignment with the Steering Group and Director.
  • Provide editorial support across the BBC, working closely with the Editorial Policy and Responsible AI teams.
  • Collaborate on new editorial proposals and pilots with various divisions.
  • Develop and revise BBC guidelines related to Generative AI alongside Editorial Policy & Standards.
  • Represent the BBC at internal and external events.

Are You The Right Candidate?

  • A seasoned digital and editorial leader with significant experience in news or content.
  • Skilled in managing senior stakeholders, tight deadlines and competing priorities.
  • An effective communicator able to foster collaboration across departments and external partners.
  • Deeply knowledgeable about media trends, the BBC, competitors and industry regulations.
  • Experienced with budget management and financial drivers.
