The position

Job description

The Engineering Manager is responsible for leading a team of software engineers in a hands-on position, ensuring the successful delivery of technical projects while fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.

This role involves close collaboration with Product Managers, Designers, and other stakeholders to drive the development roadmap, maintain technical excellence, and ensure that both quality and velocity goals are met.

Additionally, the Engineering Manager plays a key role in developing team members and implementing best practices.

The Engineering Manager will report to the Engineering Director and will share the appropriate level of information and transparency to move projects forward.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Lead at Squad Level

  • Collaborate with Product Manager & Designer on roadmap, project management, and daily tasks.
  • Contribute as a software engineer (60%) and participate in code reviews.
  • Ensure team meets velocity and quality targets.
  • Analyze requirements, assess feasibility, and create documentation.
  • Guarantee project goal achievement and address blockers.
  • Uphold best practices (unit testing, TDD, etc.) with the QA team.
  • Implement clean code principles, testing, releases, and pair programming (with Staff Engineers).
  • Oversee monitoring to ensure KPIs are met and fully functional.
  • Manage support requests from internal teams, ensuring timely resolution of tickets.

Team Management / Coaching & Development

  • Lead a team of up to 4 engineers.
  • Collaborate with Talent teams to recruit, develop, and retain top talent.
  • Provide clear performance feedback and foster growth.
  • Ensure team cohesion, motivation, and smooth operations.
  • Encourage ambition, high standards, and drive excellence.
  • Align team performance with business objectives.

Technical Lead at Engineering Level

  • Collaborate with other leads (Staff Engineers / Engineering Managers / SRE) to coordinate priorities and projects.
  • Work with Engineering Director to establish scalable processes as the team expands.
  • Lead cross-functional initiatives to elevate the overall engineering team.
  • Develop, test, and improve cross-team processes, coordinating with the Tech leads to implement them.

Preferred experience

You’d be someone we’d love to collaborate with if you :

  • You have at least 7 years of coding experience (back-end / full stack) and you want to keep coding at least half of your time!
  • You have at least one significant prior experience managing a full-stack engineering squad (2-3 years)
  • You demonstrate strong leadership to guide your team, backed by extensive technical expertise for coaching and a pragmatic mindset for identifying clear, effective solutions.
  • You’re comfortable:
    • Building, running and continuously iterating on squad rituals that fit your squad’s context and foster efficiency & velocity.
    • Collaborating with cross-functional counterparts: PM, Product Designer.
    • Supporting and coaching your IC direct reports, and giving them regular feedback to help them grow in alignment with wider company goals.
    • Managing in both French and English, in a remote context.
  • You’re comfortable being hands-on in a full-stack context, through code and design document review or code contributions outside of the team’s critical path.
  • You’re product-minded: not content with executing on pre-defined tasks and roadmap, you’re directly in touch with business challenges and customer pains, and use this to inform your focuses, prioritization calls, and the direction you provide your team.
