Technical Leadership at Squad Level

  • Collaborate with Product Manager & Designer on roadmap, project management, and strategic planning.
  • Provide technical guidance and architectural oversight, with selective hands-on coding (20-30%) for critical paths, proof-of-concepts, or unblocking the team.
  • Enable engineers through architectural guidance, technical decision-making, and removing technical blockers.
  • Oversee code review process and standards, conducting reviews on critical or architecturally significant changes.
  • Ensure team meets velocity and quality targets through effective prioritization and resource allocation.
  • Define and communicate technical direction and architecture decisions for the squad.
  • Analyze requirements, assess feasibility, and ensure appropriate technical documentation.
  • Guarantee project goal achievement, identify risks early, and orchestrate solutions to blockers.
  • Champion best practices (unit testing, TDD, CI/CD, etc.) in collaboration with the QA team.
  • Drive implementation of clean code principles, testing standards, release processes, and pair programming culture (in partnership with Staff Engineers).
  • Oversee monitoring and observability to ensure KPIs are met and systems are fully functional.
  • Manage support request workflows from internal teams, ensuring timely resolution and proper prioritization.
  • Balance technical debt reduction with feature delivery, maintaining system health.

Team Management, Coaching & Development

  • Lead and grow a team of 4-8 engineers, fostering a high-performance culture.
  • Collaborate with Talent teams to recruit, develop, and retain top engineering talent.
  • Conduct regular 1:1s and create individualized development plans for career growth.
  • Own performance management: provide clear feedback, conduct performance reviews, build promotion cases, and guide compensation discussions.
  • Delegate technical leadership opportunities to senior engineers, developing future technical leaders.
  • Ensure team cohesion, motivation, and psychological safety.
  • Encourage ambition, high standards, and continuous improvement.
  • Align individual and team performance with business objectives.
  • Create opportunities for learning, skill development, and knowledge sharing.

Stakeholder Management & Communication

  • Communicate technical progress, risks, and trade-offs to Product, Design, and Engineering leadership.
  • Represent the team in planning cycles, prioritization discussions, and cross-functional meetings.
  • Translate business requirements into technical strategy and communicate technical constraints to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Build trust and maintain transparency with all stakeholders.

Technical Leadership at Engineering Level

  • Work with Engineering Director to establish scalable processes as the team expands.
  • Contribute to engineering-wide technical strategy and long-term architectural planning.
  • Lead cross-functional initiatives to elevate the overall engineering organization.
  • Develop, test, and improve cross-team processes, coordinating with Tech leads to implement them effectively.
  • Make architectural decisions that impact multiple teams or have long-term technical implications.
  • Champion engineering culture and values across the organization.

  • You have at least one significant prior experience managing a full-stack engineering squad (2-3 years)
  • You demonstrate strong leadership to guide your team, backed by extensive technical expertise for coaching and a pragmatic mindset for identifying clear, effective solutions.

    • Building, running and continuously iterating on squad rituals that fit your squad’s context and foster efficiency & velocity.
    • Collaborating with cross-functional counterparts: PM, Product Designer.
    • Supporting and coaching your IC direct reports, and giving them regular feedback to help them grow in alignment with wider company goals.
