Ember is recruiting a Digital Communications Intern on a full-time basis for six months to help get data and policy insights to our target audiences.
You will support the digital communication team to produce engaging content which accurately showcases key narratives and report takeaways. This might mean crafting a punchy social media thread to accompany a new report, designing graphics that bring our analysis to life, or helping draft our monthly newsletter. You’ll also support day-to-day digital operations—such as building web pages, developing web page content and monitoring engagement.
This is a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience in digital strategy, content creation, and climate communications within a small but high-impact international organisation. Your work will have real impact in moving the world towards a zero-carbon power system, in a fast growing and innovative organisation. The role will report into the Digital Communications Officer.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver social media plans which promote Ember’s reports and schedule targeted posts on relevant social media channels
- Support the creation of visuals (e.g. carousels, animated charts, videos) using templates in Canva or similar tools
- Use WordPress to build web pages for our reports
- Assist with basic website updates and content uploads
- Help prepare email newsletters and manage subscriber lists
- Monitor social and media engagement and gather analytics for internal reporting
- Research digital trends and opportunities to improve outreach in target

Must have
- Strong written communication skills with an ability to communicate with clarity, in the right tone.
- Some experience with content creation (e.g. social posts, blog, student magazine).
- Basic design skills with an eye for detail
- An understanding of how to use and engage people on social media platforms, especially Twitter/X and LinkedIn.
- Organised, curious, and willing to learn.
- An interest in climate and energy.
- Fluent in spoken and written English.
Nice to have
- Basic knowledge of tools like Canva or WordPress.
- Familiarity with climate/energy policy or climate justice narratives
- Interest in data storytelling or data visualisation
- Understanding of web design and development
- Other language skills (especially in Asia)
Salary: £25,207 Salaries may be adjusted depending on a location cost of living formula, but will not be below 75% of advertised figure.
Contract: Full time (but only working 9 days every fortnight with no reduction in pay), temporary position for 6 months with the opportunity to extend depending on performance. For employees based outside of the UK, a local payroll contract is available, dependent on the country.
