Salary: £56,600 - £62,000 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

Contract type: Permanent

Location: Home based. Regular travel to London is required.

Job Introduction

The Deputy Scheme Secretary is a new role that will form part of a three-strong secretariat serving the Trustee Board of the BBC Pension Scheme. The role holder supports the Board directors to achieve its objective to ensure that all beneficiaries receive the benefits to which they are entitled.

The role has been created to recognise the increasing pensions governance workload, and provide business continuity cover and long-term succession planning for the Scheme Secretary.

Main Responsibilities

●    Meetings – planning meeting logistics, distributing papers, taking minutes and recording actions for c20-25 meetings per year

●    Record-keeping – maintaining database of governance documents and overseeing Scheme record-keeping in line with policy

●    Trustee support – running induction and managing recruitment and termination for new Trustee directors

●    Third-party service providers (advisers to the Trustee) – managing regular reviews and performance monitoring

●    Working closely with business support functions and other key stakeholders across the Pension and Benefits Centre to ensure that the Scheme is effectively supported.

●    Supporting the delivery of projects including identifying and delegating appropriate tasks and monitoring delivery.

●    Leading on change projects while overseeing compliance and governance activities.

Are you the right candidate

●    Experience of providing a secretariat service to a board or other governing body

●    Confidence to build and maintain constructive relationships with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders at all levels

●    Minute-taking and meeting organisation skills

●    Strong organisational and record-keeping skills

●    Effective communication skills both orally and in writing and ability to target content for the audience.

●    Experience of handling confidential information with discretion

●    Ability to forward plan, prioritise and make effective and timely decisions

●    Able to work independently, using own initiative to solve problems

●    Must be able to change priorities quickly to react to business requirements and influence others to do the same.

●    Advanced computer skills with extensive demonstrable experience of office software packages (i.e. Word, Excel and PowerPoint.).

●    Pensions knowledge is beneficial but not essential
