Defence Digital provide digital and technology services (based on the MOD Digital Backbone) to the whole of Defence, ensuring they can operate securely via all means such as radio, satellite and the internet. Operating at scale, with an annual budget in excess of £2Bn and a diverse team of 2,500 colleagues, we are aiming to make our Armed Forces some of the most technologically advanced in the world. To do that we are growing our capabilities in disciplines like data science, automation and cyber security. Defence Digital is currently undergoing a transformation to a service approach and is implementing a Service Executive Model where Service Owners have responsibility for the end to end and through life delivery of the service value chain.
The Core Enabling Services (CES) Team is a key part of Defence Digital and is central to their ambition to deliver an efficient and effective MOD Digital Backbone and wider ambitions for the future. CES provides the portfolio structure and support for three vital strands of the Digital Backbone including the Digital Identity Service. CES is also transforming to a Service Executive approach and as such is seeking Service Owners.
The Service Owner for Cloud Hosting & Tools (Secret) is responsible for the end to end provision of all aspects of cloud hosting at the 'secret' classification across Defence – from product development through to product delivery and on into operations.
Cloud hosting is a core part of the MOD's digital backbone enabling secure and ubiquitous access to applications and services across Defence. It is vital to the effective delivery of our digital strategy.
The role will lead a multi-disciplinary team of 50 – 100 people and have accountability for a budget of £5m -£10m.

A Service Owner is accountable for the quality of their service. They adopt a portfolio view, managing end-to-end services, which include multiple products and channels.
At this level, you will:
- Operate at scale and provide the connection between multidisciplinary business areas and stakeholders
- Ensure the necessary business processes are followed
- Participate in the governance of the service, including acting as a point of escalation for the delivery teams
- Own the budget and allocate funding to areas of the service based on your decisions about priorities
- Communicate the benefits and performance of your service
- Be responsible for the successful operation and continuous improvement of the service
SECRET CLOUD is a new, high-paced project looking to deliver an interim cloud hosting environment at SECRET. Although this is a new post, the project is already moving at pace.
This job role is suitable for hybrid working, which is an informal, non-contractual and voluntary arrangement, blending a balance of attendance in the workplace (your permanent duty station) and working from home as a personal choice. If you are successful, any opportunities for hybrid working will be discussed with you prior to you taking up your post.
The successful candidate is required to carry out all their duties from a UK location and cannot do so from an overseas location at any time.
Due to security and information access restriction, the role is only open to a sole BRITISH national.

You can recognise the appropriate deliverables and the right people to meet them. You can work with other Agile delivery operations throughout the product life cycle. - Operational management. You can keep abreast of industry best practice and can cascade ways of working. You can make operations efficient. You can act as the escalation point for major operational issues and champion operational management across the community. A relevant professional qualification that demonstrates a commitment to ongoing learning - for example scrum master, agile PM, Prince2, MSP, MBA, chartered professional- would be desirable.
