At ThredUp, our mission is to inspire a new generation to think secondhand first, and data is critical to our success. We are looking for a curious and creative data scientist to join our team and drive key marketplace pricing decisions and strategies. In this role, you will collaborate with a diverse team of data scientists, software engineers, product managers, and marketers. Your work will involve building and refining pricing and promotions algorithms, deriving insights from extensive customer and inventory data, and partnering with internal teams to evolve and grow the ThredUp marketplace.
In This Role, You’ll Get To:
- Implement end-to-end algorithmic solutions to inform product decisions.
- Utilize econometric methods, including causal inference, to forecast market behaviors and identify opportunities for optimization.
- Collaborate on pricing and promotional strategies to provide exceptional customer value while driving business impact.
- Engage in our knowledge-sharing culture by spreading best practices and insights from prior experiences, helping the entire team grow.
- Enhance our data systems and tools to continuously improve analysis efficiency and data access across the company.
- Work alongside engineers and data scientists to design, code, and deploy data science and machine learning solutions across the product and business landscape.
What We’re Looking For:
- 5 or more years of experience in data science, product analytics, machine learning, or software development.
- Strong cross-functional communication skills to collaborate effectively with business and product leads, advancing projects and fostering new partnerships.
- An innate curiosity and drive to uncover insights that enhance performance or efficiency—you have a passion for digging deep and seeking the truth.
- A well-rounded skill set in statistics, machine learning, software development, and project management.
- Advanced knowledge of relevant tools and technologies, with experience writing code in a collaborative environment.
- Prior experience in marketplaces and/or a background in economics or operations research is a plus.
At ThredUp, your base pay is one part of your total compensation package. This role pays between $166,000 and $187,000, and your actual base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
Many ThredUp employees also have the opportunity to own shares of ThredUp stock, ThredUp employees are eligible for discretionary restricted stock unit awards, as well as a discount when purchasing ThredUp stock if voluntarily participating in ThredUp’s Employee Stock Purchase Plan. Subject to eligibility requirements, you’ll also receive other benefits: Comprehensive medical & dental coverage, vision, 401k, life and disability insurance.
