Salary range: £49,500 - £78,800.

The Business Intelligence Team sits within People Analytics & Insights and is made up of Data Engineers / Scientists. The team has helped the BBC transition from using offline files feeding Excel dashboards to having an infrastructure that allows direct access to a data warehouse utilising tools such as Tableau Prep, Desktop and Server to manipulate and visualise data to then easily distribute it to our audience. Our teams ambition:

○    Automation & Modernisation - HR Data Product development, intelligent analytics and data platform implementation

○    Trusted Content – Build trust with defined, owned and consistent HR metrics and quality output

○    Partner for Storytelling Mastery – Enrich our actionable insight with diversity of input, by collaborating with strategic sub-domain partners

○    Empowered Experience –  build data confidence, literacy and digital enablement to increase the value of, and capability for, democratised access to insights

○    Integrated HR – Build and enhance business and information architecture, to enable improved provision and intersectionality of HR services and capabilities, enabling intelligent automation and advanced analytics

Main responsibilities

As a Senior Data Engineer at the BBC, you will be responsible for designing data models, building and maintaining the data pipelines and partnering to develop scalable, enterprise interoperable, and high resilience infrastructure. You will also be the key contact when it comes to the front-end design and build of our content as well as supporting our more junior engineers/scientists within the team, leading our push to increase our technical capability.

You will strive to deliver quality with an eye on value for money and exceptionally high ethical and technical standards.

You will be part of a multi-disciplinary agile team working alongside analysts and data scientists to deliver services and applications for the next generation of BBC products.

Data Engineers are critical to driving positive change for users and the business, and should be able to embrace it in a spirit of partnership  and positive attitude.

As a team member you will be expected to:

-    Communicate and understand strategy decisions, updates and insights to all team members

-    Evaluate and adapt processes and technologies to new requirements and situations including relevant team members in the process

-    Manage complex projects with integrity when faced with challenges

-    Support the team in working together effectively

-    Act as a technical expert in design and implementation, supporting data strategy delivery for HR and partner domains

•    Leads on one or more projects encouraging and mentoring team members on designing and developing software applications, testing, and building automation tools

•    Helps set standards for coding, testing and other engineering practices

•    Ensures that security and recovery is in line with BBC guidelines and industry best practices

•    Leads the design of the data infrastructure and architecture for a given project

•    Proactively evaluates and provides feedback on future technologies and new releases/upgrades based on deep understanding of the domain

•    Encouraging  and mentoring team members in partnership with other disciplines to create value with data across the wider organisation
