Compliance Officer (f/m/x)

The opportunity

At QBE Europe, we are currently looking for a Compliance Officer to join our European Compliance team and our branch team in The Netherlands. This role will be to provide assurance in respect of compliance and regulatory requirements in The Netherlands. A basic working knowledge of Dutch insurance compliance obligations is essential for this position.

The position will be based in Amsterdam, and you will report into the Compliance Manager for The Netherlands, based in Brussels, next to the General Manager for The Netherlands, based in Amsterdam. Remote work is possible to a certain extent.

You will be part of the European Compliance team and have frequent engagement with team members in our home state location (Belgium) and some of our other branch office locations (France, Germany, Spain, Italy), next to local business stakeholders.

Your new role

Compliance

  • Acquire and maintain detailed knowledge of relevant compliance requirements for branches of EU insurance undertakings active in The Netherlands
  • Provide advice to the business on interpretation of and adherence to Dutch compliance requirements, and act as a true business partner
  • Act as the link between local Underwriting/Claims staff and a central Financial Crime Prevention team
  • Assist in the delivery of European compliance projects, with a focus on implementation within the Dutch branch
  • Review and monitor local internal compliance controls for adequacy of design and operating effectiveness as and when appropriate in accordance with established compliance plans and priorities
  • Assist in development and delivery of relevant local compliance policies and training to the business as required

Risk Management

  • Assist in identification, tracking, reporting and resolution of local compliance risk issues and incidents

About you

Experience

  • Ideally some experience/ exposure with legal and/or compliance obligations and activities within a Dutch (re)insurance undertaking, bank or insurance intermediary or law office

Knowledge

  • Master’s degree in law or equivalent by a combination of knowledge and experience
  • Basic knowledge of key compliance obligations for non-life insurers according to Dutch law

Skills

  • Fluent in Dutch (verbal and in writing), next to a good working knowledge of English.
  • Able to analyse business cases, extract potential compliance issues and synthetise into concise memos with clear recommendations understandable by non-compliance colleagues.
  • Affinity with Office365 key applications

  • Be genuinely interested in Compliance as your main field of activity
  • Able to take ownership and responsibility of junior-level tasks in discrete compliance activities and projects
  • Team player; able to engage with Compliance and business partners and stakeholders
  • Able to balance business and risk perspectives.
