About Auror

At Auror, we’re empowering the retail industry to tackle theft and Organised Retail Crime, a $150 Billion problem globally. It’s high volume crime that’s increasingly organised in nature and is putting people, retailers, and communities at risk every day.

Founded in New Zealand 11 years ago, we’re working with some of the best and largest retailers in the world across the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the UK.

Auror is connecting people and intelligence to reduce crime. We’re using technology for good.

In partnership with our leading retail partners, we need people with the passion, determination, and innovation required to overcome one of the world's largest problems. If you’re looking to make a difference with and for the people dedicated to stopping crime, for good, then we want you on our team.

The Role

As our Communications & Public Relations Manager, you will play a pivotal role in proactively creating and telling Auror’s story through multiple media channels primarily in the ANZ market, while also supporting our global teams with comms assets and advice. You’ll also play a key role in supporting executive communications and strategies - including via social and mainstream media - for our CEO and senior leaders.

Practically, this will involve:

  • We want to speak to our stakeholders where they are - not simply respond to the national mastheads - you’ll work with our comms agency to identify and develop new media distribution channels and relationships focused on key customers such as trade publications, police association publications, technology and business publications.
  • You’ll develop and own a comms, exec engagement and ‘key moments’ calendar that gives us an ability to align across teams and see opportunities for proactive comms moments.
  • Developing a content calendar and strategy for key executives’ social media - primarily LinkedIn - or other channels (such as op-eds or media appearances).
  • Project managing the development and release of local and global publications, media releases, research reports, and thought leadership to ensure Auror is seen as the trusted source on retail crime. This includes end-to-end delivery of campaigns and publications and production of all associated communications materials.
  • Handling media requests, developing reactive comms plans and managing reputation
  • Being the ANZ core point of contact for our agency while also supporting leaders across the company by creating (and repurposing for different markets), positive and proactive storytelling that supports Auror’s mission.
  • Provide comms advice, as needed, to leaders across the business, assisting with press releases, collateral, briefings before panel and keynote speeches.
  • Support the development of content for an Auror Transparency Centre on the Auror website.

This role reports to Vanessa Wills, Director of Strategic Communications & Engagement

I have been working with Auror since early 2022, establishing the Communications function. We’re now looking to grow the team to help lead comms across ANZ as we look to establish comms in our other geos - it’s a very exciting time!

I’m a former litigation lawyer who has been working in corporate and public affairs / strategic comms for the last 12 years. I’ve been fortunate to work on projects that align with my values and appetite for social change, but that also created commercial benefits too. The Auror vision is to connect communities to stop crime - driving social change, and making a real impact on keeping communities safer. I’m really proud to be a part of its story - it’s an absolute privilege to be able to help share the Auror story with the world.

I value time with my family above anything else - my homelife consists of juggling school-age kids, other family businesses, and the packed calendar that comes with that. I love to travel and experience new things - I’m obsessed with visiting grocery stores in other countries. I love good food, good company, good TV, and good books.

About you

Requirements:

  • At least six years experience working in a communications-based role, whether that’s agency or in-house - journalism experience or training is preferred.
  • Excellent writing skills in media (new and traditional) and executive comms support context . Excellent project management and organisational skills  – you need to be comfortable juggling multiple competing projects, campaigns, and deadlines while working in a fast-paced and varied environment (often globally)
  • Ability to build rapport and relationships with key external stakeholders including comms teams within customer entities such as retailers and law enforcement.
  • Strong relationship management skills - you’ll be able to quickly build trust and rapport with our global team to ensure you are across possible content, and seen as a trusted advisor across all teams
  • Understanding of media and social media (primarily LinkedIn) networks and strategies to effectively communicate Auror’s story via multiple distribution channels
  • Strong existing media network, with a proven record of being able to effectively manage media requests and relationships
  • An understanding of media risk

We are looking for people who demonstrate a strong alignment to our Guiding Principles (you can find these on our Careers page).

  • Flexibility: We are hard-working and outcome focused, but recognise there is more to life than work. We promote a healthy work/life blend.
  • Shorter work weeks (at full pay): Everyone gets Friday afternoons off, so you can start your weekend early, and do more of whatever it is that makes you happy.
  • Focus on mental and physical health: We understand how vital our health is and have policies to support your wellness, including: Wellness Days,  and up to three expert sessions paid for every year.
  • Family-friendly: We offer comprehensive parental leave and benefits for primary and non-primary caregivers, including a baby bonus and meals delivered to your door.
  • Personal growth: We support our team to participate in courses, conferences, or events that will help them develop their skills.
  • Team love: We have regular team lunches and social events where most (if not all) activities are during work hours.
