Job Description
As a Combat Game Designer on For Honor at Ubisoft Montréal, you will be responsible for developing combat systems, controls, interfaces, and other interactive elements to realize the vision of the Creative Director and deliver the experience sought by players. You will contribute directly to the continuous enrichment of our unique multiplayer universe, ensuring that every encounter remains engaging, balanced, and true to the spirit of For Honor.
What You Will Do
- Design and evolve combat systems offering fair, entertaining, and strategic multiplayer confrontations
- Adjust hero movesets, weapon interactions, and abilities to ensure competitive integrity
- Collaborate with different disciplines to integrate animations, controls, and visual effects into combat mechanics
- Standardize, document, and communicate combat design elements; keep references up to date
- Prototype and test new mechanics, gathering quantitative and qualitative feedback to refine them
- Work closely with the Game Design Director to align combat with the overall vision
- Work with programmers and technical designers to develop tools that facilitate the implementation of combat systems
- Contribute to other aspects of design while keeping the focus on the multiplayer combat experience
Qualifications
What You Bring to the Team
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in video game design
- Demonstrated ability to create, iterate, and balance complex interactive systems
- Deep understanding of combat design principles, player psychology, and pacing in competitive games
- Strong collaboration skills in multidisciplinary teams
- Active listening and openness to feedback to refine designs
- Clear written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to adapt quickly and solve design challenges in a dynamic online gaming environment
- Knowledge of prototyping tools and methods used in the industry
