We are pleased to announce an incredible opportunity to join us here at Phoenix Group as BPA Investment Solutions Actuary to join our BPA Deal team, part of the Retirement Solutions & Asset Management function.  This role will be hired on a 6-month basis.

Job Type: Paternity Cover – minimum 6 months* FTC / Secondment

* Please note, this role is expected to start approx. February 2026 and there will be a short handover period, pre & post the 6-month duration. We will discuss expected start date with you during the interview stage.

Location: This role will be based in our London office, with some time working between the office and home. There may be some travel between our Phoenix offices. Team Context

Bulk Purchase Annuities (BPAs) are a key part of the RS&AM business strategy here at Phoenix Group. Within the BPA Deal team, we are responsible for pricing, structuring and executing all the new BPA transactions that Phoenix Group write. Investments are a key component of the BPA pricing journey and feed into each step of the BPA journey.

The Role

The role holder will act as a subject matter expert on investments within the team and with a focus on traditional and non-traditional risk transfer transactions across the business including:

  • Act as an expert on investment solutions for BPA clients, working with the Macro team on the construction of price lock solutions for updating submitted premiums to the execution date, balancing commercial outcomes with strong risk management to deliver best-in-class solutions for our clients which make a meaningful impact on our combined proposition.
  • For successful BPA processes, work with clients and Onboarding to support co-ordination of premium payment, including the in-specie transfer of large books of gilts, credit, swaps and cash.
  • Supporting engagement with pension scheme clients and prospects, leveraging investment expertise to help them understand their current assets and investigate options to help them transition them into asset portfolios that we can onboard as part of a transaction.
  • Process and deliver business-as-usual requirements for pre- and post-transaction pricing updates and roll forwards, using various sources of market data.

What are we looking for?

Qualifications (Essential)

  • Qualified Investment Actuary or CFA

Experience, Skills & Knowledge (Essential)

  • Practical experience of fixed income analysis and modelling, including the development of cash flow models for bespoke projects and exercises
  • Experience of working in an investment role within an insurance/banking/consulting/asset management environment
  • A good understanding of the types of asset classes that pension schemes will use as part of their investment strategy. An interest in the both public and private markets and the ability to identify and understand macro trends within them.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders for the business. Including partnering with asset management colleagues within the function, and maintaining external relationships with asset managers/ investment banks as appropriate.

Personal Attributes

  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills, and the ability to work quickly and accurately with a high attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills, including experience of interacting with a wide range of stakeholders (including external stakeholders)
