We're looking for an Assistant to the Founders to help shape the future of our company.
About Beacon
At Beacon we’re a growing technology startup building the best nonprofit-focused CRM in the world. We passionately believe in the power of technology to make a difference.
Chris and David, both software engineers, founded Beacon in 2017 to build a new kind of charity CRM using the latest technology and design principles.
Now hundreds of innovative charities around the world trust Beacon to run their core technology infrastructure. Animal welfare, human rights, disaster relief, cancer support - all powered by Beacon. You can see a quick demo of our product, here, and find out more about our features here .
We have doing good at the core of our mission, but we're also profitable, owned by the founders, and our goals are for long term sustainable growth - not making a quick buck for venture capitalists.
About the role
You’ll be playing a crucial role in the organisation at an exciting point in our journey. Your focus will be on providing administrative and operational support to Chris and David, as well as managing the day to day operations of the Beacon office.
We expect this role to be a jumping off point into other roles at Beacon. It’s a perfect way to gain deep insight into the operations of a fast-growing technology company and to help shape the future of a great organisation.
We’re creating this role because Chris and David are busy, not lazy. You won’t be asked to make coffee for the founders, collect anyone’s dry cleaning, or any nonsense like that.
Responsibilities
- Manage the founders’ overflowing inboxes, making sure that the important things get prioritised and actioned and the spam gets discarded
- Keep on top of scheduling and manage the founders’ calendars
- Help with the administration around hiring - organising and booking in candidates for in-person interviews
- Use technology to automate internal processes wherever possible, for example setting up workflows in our HR platform, and improving our office visitor check in.
- Take ownership of developing and maintaining a great office environment for the Beacon team. You’ll be given a budget to make Beacon a great place to work, and you’ll be expected to take responsibility for everything from keeping the fridge stocked with milk to developing the office aesthetic and being our point of contact with building management.
- Ensure that the Beacon workspace is safe and compliant
- Manage the Beacon team’s equipment and devices. Everyone’s laptops and phones need to be kept bang up to date and secure!
- You’ll be the first point of contact when people arrive in the Beacon office and you’ll be in charge of making sure that guests have a great experience when they arrive.
Requirements
We’ll be looking for these things in our new assistant:
- Smart - You'll be a fast learner and a fantastic problem-solver.
- Tech-focused - No coding required, but you need to be confident handling modern technology used in work environments. Ideally, you’ll absolutely LOVE a spreadsheet.
- Experienced - This won’t be your first rodeo. You’ll need experience in a job with similar responsibilities, ideally as an executive assistant to startup founders.
- Proactive - You’ll be expected to crack on and get things done on your own initiative.
- Well organised - There’s a lot to do, so prioritisation is crucial. You’ll need to set up processes and make sure that everything gets done promptly and properly.
- Detail-orientated - It’s not enough to just get things done, we need to get them done right!
- Charming and friendly - You’ll be representing Beacon and representing the founders, and we pride ourselves on being lovely human beings.
Benefits
- Our customers are all charities - you'll get to build your career whilst having a genuinely positive impact on the world
- Four day work week. Our working model gives everyone a 3 day weekend, every week.
- We'll give you 6 weeks (24 days) of holiday every year, plus bank holidays
- 6 week fully paid sabbatical every 5 years

- Banded salary system so that everyone is paid the same for doing the same job, and compensation growth within the organisation is clear.
- Guaranteed pay rise to adjust for inflation every 12 months

Working together
As a team we prefer to be together in our office (4-6 New Inn Broadway, London, EC2A 3PR) and we'd want you to join us - so this is not a remote role. We offer flexible working hours and while your usual place of work will be with us in the office, you can work home when you need to.
If you don’t live in London but would be happy to relocate, we can pay up to £4,000 (tax free) to help with your relocation costs.
Hiring process
- Application including CV and cover letter or 2 minute video/voice recording (Closes 16th March)
- Phone interview with the CEO (Chris) - 20 minutes
- Video interview with the CTO (David) - 1 hour
- Final stage session in-person at Beacon’s office with the CEO (Chris) - 3 hours
- Our office is wheelchair accessible
- We’re happy to pay for appropriate travel costs if this would impact your ability to attend in-person
If there is anything that we can do to improve the accessibility of any of these stages for you, please let us know.
We passionately believe in doing our part to address the tech sector's diversity problem
We believe that in building diversity we build strength.
We encourage everyone with the required skills to apply, we consider building a diverse and representative team to be critical to our success, and we actively pursue building a more diverse team.
We have a banded salary system to ensure that nobody is paid differently for the same role. Salaries across the organisation, including executive pay, are entirely transparent.
Our parental leave policy provides for 12 weeks of full pay, and can be taken by any parent, regardless of their new parenting circumstances.
We are actively working to demonstrate our commitment to our values. Recently we completed our Bloody Good Period’s ‘Bloody Good Employer’ certification and we’re currently working towards becoming a certified BCorp.
