Job Introduction
The BBC World Service is undergoing a significant strategic review, becoming a digital first operation and in WS Languages is being managed by two News Controllers – Output and Content. This new structure seeks to refine the editorial purpose and USP of each of the 42 Language services in target markets, ensuring that the BBC is known for distinctive and original content and that well-produced stories from all over the world are shared as widely as possible across the BBC.
The Assistant Technical Producer, will be part of a team ensuring our journalism has the highest impact across all BBC platforms and beyond, now all of the investigative documentary units have come together under the Longform division. Working closely with the Technical Producer and Digital Technician, the postholder will focus on: managing the unit’s camera and filming kits; advising teams on InfoSec and best filming practice; supporting the production process for the department’s high impact investigative documentaries.
Main responsibilities
• Manage the unit’s camera and filming kits
• Provide operational and creative guidance and advice to colleagues and production staff
• Advise on Information Security
• Assist in the development of new effective ways of working
• Help manage servers for high volume data
• Keep up to date with emerging industry trends
• To work effectively with other departments, suppliers & partners (internal & external) ensuring the BBC maintains excellent relationships throughout
• Creative self-starter with initiative and tenacity and ability to see how their work fits in with the wider needs of department
• To be technically proficient to the requirements of the role
• Direct and coordinate resources in a busy, production environment
Are you the right candidate?
• Experience in managing TV & Radio broadcast camera and recording kits and setting up workflows to manage them
• Knowledge of file formats and transcoding
• Knowledge of production and post-production workflows
• Experience with asset management software
• An understanding of digital security and software analysis
• Experience of working with servers for high volume data and an ability to use IT proficiently
• A keen interest in documentaries and the production process
• A strong communicator and ability to simplify complex problems
• Effective planning and organising skills. Ability to concentrate on several areas of work at one time, prioritising, delivering consistently to deadlines and reacting positively to changes and conflicting priorities
• Ability to prioritise a conflicting workload efficiently and to maintain standards of accuracy and attention to detail when working to deadlines or changing priorities.

Salary: Up to £36,000 plus London Weighting depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

Location: Office Base is London. This is a hybrid role and the successful candidate will balance office working with home working
