Job Purpose

BBC Studios’ Natural History Unit (NHU) is the leading producer of wildlife programming, creating award-winning content with a world class reputation. Our output ranges from ambitious landmarks for BBC One and iPlayer (Green Planet, Dynasties, and Planet Earth III) to children’s programming (Deadly Dinosaurs and Andy’s Adventures), as well as ground-breaking adventure, formatted, presenter led, feature docs and event programming such as Endangered for Discovery Channel, Prehistoric Planet for Apple TV+ and live programming such as the BAFTA winning Springwatch for the BBC.

About PROJECT STORM (Working Title)

A single, talent-led documentary that outlines a hopeful plan for solving the climate crisis, showcasing incredible projects and people across the globe all working to affect change, this documentary will be truly original and impactful.

We are looking for an Assistant Producer, enthusiastic about the subject matter, to work on this major project. They will need to be highly creative and organised with excellent storytelling skills, visual flair, and the ability to take an innovative and imaginative approach to delivering outstanding content.

Are you the Right Candidate?

  • Evidence of strong directorial skills and ability to identifying key story lines, especially with scientists/actuality as well as natural history.
  • Experience of working across long form narrative, specifically in the feature doc genre.
  • Experience of directing sync.
  • Evidence of visual flair and strong emotionally engaging, character led storytelling.
  • Experience of working with high profile contributors.
  • Ability to set up and direct urban/remote shoots and being responsible for safety on location.
  • Proven experience working on projects with key stakeholders and ability to manage upwards.
  • Understanding of ‘duty of care’ with regard to individuals’ wellbeing and production Health & Safety issues.
  • The ability to work well in teams, sharing information and knowledge and working closely with researchers in their team.
  • Knowledge of VFX process and pipelines.

Job Package

Band: C

Contract type: Fixed term

Location: Bristol

Salary: £40,000 - £51,000 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

Working Pattern: Hybrid

Start date: June 2024
