What We’re Looking For
- Previous experience in a first line risk role
- Excellent understanding and experience of implementing a risk management framework in a first line business area
- Ability to provide independent view and challenge to senior management
- Knowledge and understanding of annuity products and associated risks

We’re currently recruiting for a Risk Consultant to join our Client Services team within Retirement Solutions. The successful candidate will be required to promote informed decision making and controlled risk-taking that improves customer outcomes and delivers long term value for our shareholders.
Working within a growing, brilliant, friendly team of risk professionals across our Edinburgh and London locations, you will support many aspects implementing our risk management framework to achieve great customer outcomes for our Annuity customers. This is a fantastic opportunity to bring your own experience, ways of working and knowledge – we want to hear from you if you love to challenge how we can make risk simpler for our teams to make their jobs easier, protecting our customers, whilst also evidencing reasonable steps.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead workshops to complete continual assessment of risk and control environment to identify, measure, monitor and manage the risks to which our Annuity customers are exposed.
- Support reporting to Governance committees on the key risks, controls and actions for Annuity customers, the effectiveness of our Risk Management Framework and exposures against appetite.
- Review and challenge process & Policy, risk and control activities to determine effectiveness and report on weaknesses.
- Challenges the design and performance of existing controls at senior management level, internally and externally to recommend improvements as appropriate.
- Working closely with outsource providers to ensure risk and control profile is well understood, documented and in line with risk appetite.
- Build relationships with Risk peers across the three lines of defence and senior managers across the Group to support the implementation of an effective Risk Management Framework for Annuities.
- Continuously developing and maintaining technical knowledge and applying this in conjunction with business awareness in order to provide review, challenge and consultancy.
- Expressing technical information in plain language for stakeholders with a range of technical knowledge.
- Managing a variety of risk management related tasks and activities concurrently meeting expectations on agreed deliverables and timescales.
- Support, and as relevant lead delivery of Client Services risk plan, to fulfil business Objectives.
