Mental Health and Wellbeing Advisor – FIXED TERM UNTIL 31 October 2025

Salary: This is a part time role with an actual salary of up to £29,137.40 per annum, and a full-time equivalent salary of up to £30,786 per annum.
Working Hours: 33 hours per week over 4 days, working one in four Fridays, 42 weeks per year.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Mental Health and Wellbeing Advisor to join our Student Services department.
The purpose of the role is to promote good mental health for all at College and to provide a range of support for students with mental health difficulties with the ultimate aim of a successful outcome for their learning. To support the Safeguarding Lead with the compliance of safeguarding across all areas of the College
The successful applicant must have:
- A relevant degree or professional qualification in mental health support.
- Knowledge of Legislation and issues relating to mental health
- Experience of successfully working within an appropriate context with people with mental health difficulties.
- Experience of multi-agency, multi-disciplinary and cross team working.
- Administration and record keeping with the ability to prioritise workload to meet demands of the role.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- The ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team with good time management skills.
- The ability to deal with difficult and challenging situations
The roles main duties include:
- Promoting mental health and wellbeing at the College.
- Delivering mental health support for individual students with emotional, social or personal development needs within recommended guidelines.
- Undertaking risk assessments and identification of the support needs of students with mental ill health to enrolment and whilst on programme. Construct support plans involving students and external mental health services.
- Developing professional contact with community health and other voluntary organisations to assist with effective student support.
- Dealing with individual problems and advise on referral to specialists where appropriate.
- Liaising with parents/guardians and academic staff where appropriate.
- Contributing to the development and ongoing monitoring of a college policy for mental health support and provide training and advice on its implementation.
- Keeping up-to-date with changes in legislation, government policy and research in the area of mental health in particular, but not exclusive, regard to the implications for further education.
- Developing a working relationship with the college counsellor. Conduct case reviews with college counsellor to ensure a consistent mental health and wellbeing service for students and communicate with curriculum staff where required.
- Raising awareness of the service amongst staff and students through induction and ongoing promotional activities.
- Maintaining accurate electronic and handwritten case records and statistical data as required by the college to assist in preparing reports and additional learner support funding claims.
- Producing relevant Quality data as required by the college to ensure effective service provision and to monitor student retention and achievement.
- Advising staff and to take part in Fitness to Study processes for students.
- Providing a flexible service to meet the need presented, including flexible working as required, particularly in crisis situations.
- Participating in personal supervision sessions to comply with professional standards. To actively participate in meetings with line manager to review workload demands and service provision.
- Designing and delivering designated mental health awareness and training to academic and non-academic staff through college professional development and at the request of specific departments to deliver more bespoke training.
- Reviewing safeguarding practises across the College and to ensure the Safeguarding team are kept up to date with new statutory guidance and upskilled in their safeguarding roles..
- Undertaking relevant duties as a member of the Safeguarding Team and make appropriate referrals to statutory organisations where appropriate. To complete the additional training required for this role.
This role requires you to engage in regulatory activity in the FE sector. The full definition of regulatory activity is set out in the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act 2006 as amended by the Protection of Freedoms Act 2012. Regulated activity includes teaching, instructing, caring for or supervising children if the person is unsupervised.

Grantham College operate a 4-day working week. Staff benefit from working a full-time contract over four days. You will work core hours of Monday to Thursday, working a Friday morning once a month
