Job Purpose

Do you live and breathe politics in Wiltshire? Can you explain the difference between a borough or a parish? Or decipher and bundle of council papers and find that golden nugget of a story? Or be able to tell our audiences how decisions in County Hall directly link to their lives? If so, we want to hear from you.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

We have a hugely exciting role as politics reporter in Wiltshire. You’ll tell stories across platforms for the BBC in Wiltshire with the opportunity for those stories to make a national impact. You’ll bring those stories to life in a compelling, engaging way on the BBC News website and on our social channels, on BBC Radio Wiltshire and on TV on Points West and Politics West.

Your stories will make politics simple and easy to understand. You’ll be as comfortable explaining budgets as talking about potholes. You’ll be able to explain the good things politicians do as well as holding them to account if it goes wrong.

Knowledge, Skills, Training & Experience

This is a rare opportunity to stamp your name on a key position in our newsroom. If you have an in-depth knowledge of politics and a knack for how to tell those in a multimedia environment we want to hear from you!

About the BBC

The BBC is committed to redeploying employees seeking suitable alternative employment within the BBC for different reasons and they will be given priority consideration ahead of other applicants. Priority consideration means for those employees seeking redeployment their application will be considered alongside anyone else at risk of redundancy, prior to any individuals being considered who are not at risk.

We don’t focus simply on what we do – we also care how we do it. Our values and the way we behave are important to us. Please make sure you’ve read about our values and behaviours here.

Diversity matters at the BBC. We have a working environment where we value and respect every individual's unique contribution, enabling all of our employees to thrive and achieve their full potential.

We want to attract the broadest range of talented people to be part of the BBC – whether that’s to contribute to our programming or our wide range of non-production roles. The more diverse our workforce, the better able we are to respond to and reflect our audiences in all their diversity.

We are committed to equality of opportunity and welcome applications from individuals, regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, socio-economic background, religion and/or belief. We will consider flexible working requests for all roles, unless operational requirements prevent otherwise.
