Job Introduction

International freelancers are an integral part of the overall workforce at the BBC, contributing in on-air, off-air, and business support capacities to create world-class content.

We have an exciting opportunity to join a UK-based team, working collaboratively with business teams across the BBC as well as Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) in specialist teams such as Business Affairs, HR, Insurance and Tax. This role is focused on optimising our engagement with international freelancers, reviewing our ways of working, and managing risk effectively.

If you thrive in a fast-paced environment and are driven by the opportunity to make impactful changes on a global scale, this role is for you.

Main Responsibilities

In this key role, you'll be responsible for:

•    Managing a team of specialists delivering an assessment service for the engagement of international freelancers.

•    Collaborating with relevant SMEs globally to assess current policies and processes related to international freelancers, identifying areas for improvement and streamlining our approach.

•    Reviewing international data insights to proactively identify risks, working closely with bookers, international bureaus, and relevant SMEs to mitigate and manage these.

•    Advocating our policies worldwide; partnering with business areas and relevant SMEs to enforce and help them understand the “why.”

•    Designing and delivering engaging training across all elements of the international freelancer engagement lifecycle, empowering stakeholders with the knowledge they need.

•    Leveraging global business insights to help drive the strategy and delivery of the service.

•    Conducting gap analysis and future planning to identify existing gaps and establish future requirements, considering strategic priorities and in-country legal requirements.

•    Working collaboratively with key stakeholders and strategic enterprise programmes globally to ensure all changes meet future organisational and legislative requirements.

Are you the right candidate

We want to hear from you if you have:

•    People Management: Proven experience in managing and leading teams, with the ability to inspire and develop talent within an international context.

•    In-depth knowledge: A robust understanding of people and finance processes, policies, and risks specific to international freelance engagements.

•    International Legal Expertise: Hands-on experience with international tax and employment law, particularly as they relate to freelance engagements.

•    Problem-Solving: Exceptional problem-solving abilities that blend creativity with practicality to devise effective solutions.

•    Process Optimisation Experience: A track record of process discovery and consolidation within complex, matrixed organizations.

•    Change Leadership: Strong project planning, management, and delivery skills, with proven experience in driving change, implementing strategies on time, and juggling multiple priorities.

•    Analytical Acumen: Strong analytical capabilities to distill complex concepts into clear, actionable strategies.

•    Communication Excellence: Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills to engage successfully with a diverse array of international stakeholders.

About the BBC

The BBC is committed to redeploying employees seeking suitable alternative employment within the BBC for different reasons and they will be given priority consideration ahead of other applicants.
