Salary: This is a full time role with an actual salary of up to £40,000 per annum.

Working Hours: 33 hours per week over 4 days, working one in four Fridays, 52 weeks per year.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Head Coach to join our GB Youth Academy and Grantham College Table Tennis department.

The purpose of the role is to deliver the programme for the GB Youth Table Tennis Academy and the Grantham college Table Tennis Academy.

The successful applicant must have:

  • A thorough knowledge and understanding of the technical, tactical skills and fitness levels required for players to succeed at international level (particularly at youth level)
  • Significant international high-level experience in table tennis
  • Experience of managing relationships and programmes in a high-performance environment
  • Excellent interpersonal skills along with demonstrable energy, adaptability, integrity and being a team player
  • The ability to promote and foster a team culture reflecting the organisation’s values and goals
  • Commitment to providing a safe supportive environment for athletes and staff
  • A genuine commitment to enhance ones coaching through researched and data driven knowledge

The roles main duties include to:

  • Be the Head Coach for the newly established GB Youth Academy and provide direction and line management to the Coach of Grantham College
  • Support the recruitment of players into the GB Youth Academy and be an advocate for and promote both the GB Youth academy and Grantham College Table Tennis Academy at appropriate opportunities
  • Design and implement a periodised programme in line with the performance standards and objectives with the athletes you work with both in the GB Youth Academy and Grantham College Table Tennis Academy
  • Plan and deliver both one to one and group-based sessions with members of both the GB Youth Academy and college Academy
  • Lead the cadet Great Britain Training Squad Programme
  • Be the European Youth Cadet Coach
  • Support, where appropriate delivery of DiSE practical elements (up to 15 days per year)
  • Support the development of the performance standards for players to become a member of the academy and any changes as a result of the programme evolving
  • Attend Table Tennis England Performance Team meetings and provide an update on players in the GB Youth Academy, liaising when required with national coaches to discuss player plans (in particular the lead Futures coach and lead GBTS coach)
  • Outside of term time, to spend time at the Elite Training Centre, supporting activity at the discretion of the Director of Performance Development
  • Design an age and level appropriate international training programme for each member of the GB Youth Academy
  • Attend a minimum of 5 international events a year, leading on the coaching of players within the Academy
  • To achieve a minimum of 8 international youth medals from players part of the GB Youth Academy
  • Conduct regular reviews with each athlete and their support network for both the GB Youth Academy and Grantham College Table Tennis Academy
  • Attend domestic events to monitor and report back on the progress of players in both the GB Youth academy and college Academy
  • Ensure players are adhering to any wider support that has been offered to them as part of the GB pathway
  • Work with stakeholders to ensure delivery of a physical based programme for players on and off camp
  • Work collaboratively with Grantham College and the Table Tennis England Performance Team to review the programme at several agreed points in the year
  • Ensure there are clear lines of communication with parents regarding the expectations of players in the programme and provide feedback in terms of performance.
  • Liaise with coaching staff at Charles Read School regarding player schedules
  • Play an active role in supporting coach development initiatives directed by the Table Tennis England Coaching Team
  • Support players in the academy with their wellbeing and ensures the safeguarding of all players
  • Signpost players to appropriate support services as required
  • Work with Accommodation team on site to ensure the players are managing living independently and following a healthy eating plan.
  • Design training plans for players during non-term time periods for both GB Youth Academy and Grantham College Table Tennis Academy.
  • Attend tournaments to network with patents and players to sell the opportunities of both academies
  • Complete the coach’s appraisals and to hold regular scheduled meetings with the coaching team
  • Communication with the Marketing team at Grantham College and Table Tennis England to share/provide updates of what is happening within the academies.
  • With the Head of Curriculum prepare and monitor the annual budget for the Table Tennis Academy
  • Liaise with curriculum staff to ensure students within the Table Tennis Academy are progressing with their academic studies in a satisfactory manner
  • Liaise with the accommodation staff to ensure students within the Table Tennis Academy behave in a responsible manner

This role requires you to engage in regulatory activity in the FE sector. The full definition of regulatory activity is set out in the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act 2006 as amended by the Protection of Freedoms Act 2012. Regulated activity includes teaching, instructing, caring for or supervising children if the person is unsupervised.

Grantham College operate a 4-day working week. Staff benefit from working a full-time contract over four days. You will work core hours of Monday to Thursday, working a Friday morning once a month
