We’re looking for someone who loves cities, local slang, and racking up eyewatering word counts to help make Transit stand out on the world wide web. You’ll help us create and maintain elegant content templates on our app store listings in 25+ countries and on webpages in our 900+ supported cities. You’ll make sure riders are equipped with the latest info for their local transit agencies, routes, and stations. You’ll also whip up shortform blog posts for local searches — like ones guiding skiers to the best bus to the slopes.

You’ll be tasked with creating and organizing content to bring more eyeballs into the pipeline for Transit’s growth initiatives, which will include local research (like figuring out how folks refer to their buses and trains… is it “the metro”, “the train”, “the underground”, or “the T”?) and making bespoke changes for each city. You’ll suss out what locals are searching for, figure out how to answer their questions, and ensure that whenever we talk about a city’s transit service, it always sounds true to that city’s roots — even in places where the local vernacular isn’t English.

With the help of translators and your own linguistic savvy, you’ll construct mad lib narratives to surface the right info to riders and scale your templates across hundreds of cities, thousands of web pages, and millions of readers. You’ll also keep an eye out for transit agency news (like a major sporting event or forthcoming network redesign) that enables you to efficiently create new helpful content, all while keeping the tone of voice on our webpages true to Transit’s own.

📝 Responsibilities
  • Edit and maintain the templates used on our transit route webpages which are viewed by millions of people every month
  • Write city- and country-specific content to help more riders discover our pages (and, by extension, our app!)
  • Work closely with the Growth Team, Web Team and translators to improve and maintain our CMS, and update pages with custom content in multiple languages
  • Ensure our webpages are typo-free and adapted to the local context (so that we never clumsily refer to Montreal’s Orange Line as “the subway”)
  • Help manage the translation process for our web pages (and eventually the app) with the support of various software tools and internal/external translators so that we can reach more people
  • Find high-intent keywords for our webpages and app store listings to help us optimize existing pages and identify opportunities for new shortform content
  • Own our app store listings. This includes maintaining our standard content, optimizing our descriptions as needed for different markets, coordinating with the Graphic Design Team for app store visuals, and implementing content and graphic changes based on experiments developed by you and the Growth Team.
  • Turn around copy for time-sensitive growth projects (like network redesigns, seasonal service changes, and major events), and pitch in on other operationally-minded growth initiatives (like doing outreach to coordinate backlinks, and helping our Service Delivery team better guide transit agency partners on app promotion)
✅ Requirements
  • You are a strong, detail-oriented and efficient writer with a track record of scaling content projects (include some examples in your application!)
  • You are passionate about public transit, urbanism, and getting around cities without a car
  • Detail-oriented, detail-obsessed, undaunted by the devils in the (okay, you get the point) — because you’ll have lots of balls in the air. Refining processes to maintain content in 10 or 15 or 20 languages shouldn’t scare you!
  • Rudimentary technical chops (you know what GitHub is, can push quick changes to simple strings and other boilerplate code, and are ready to level up your AI prompting skills)
  • Strong written and spoken communication skills in English. The vast majority of Transit’s users and partner transit agencies speak English as their primary language.
  • You live in Montreal or are open to relocating

💰 Compensation and benefits

$60,000 - $85,000 CAD per year, based on experience
