Digital Construction Implementation Engineer

We work 4 days per week (32hrs). Pick which day you'd like off

Only considering candidates who are eligible to work in the UK ⚠️

We’re looking for someone to work closely with our customers to ensure they succeed in adopting digital tools, in an industry where many fail. If you’re working in construction and are frustrated because you know there’s a better way. If you want to grow and put your skills to the test and exist at the cutting edge of the industry, we have an opportunity for you.

We are Shape.Construction!

We are digitising the largest and most fundamental industry in the world, the industry that literally builds the foundations of the civilisation we all depend on to spare us from a brutal hunter-gatherer life: CONSTRUCTION

It is one of the least digitised industries in the world but also the largest – 1 in 9 people globally work in the construction industry and it constitutes 11% of global GDP.

Improving construction strengthens the very foundation of human civilisation. ( Watch our short film about it).

We got our start as a high-end construction project management consultancy. As a consultancy, we are focused on genuinely upgrading the way construction projects are delivered. We then take the deep understanding of the projects we work on to develop construction management software products that anyone can use to deliver their projects better.

We are building a full suite of products one module at a time – kind of like office 365 but for construction management. ( Check out Shape, our construction management tech and watch this video about what we are doing)

The core of all this is our true secret sauce; people. We only recruit the very best both in capability and personality. We are deeply focused on designing a new type of organisation that is optimised for the flourishing of the people in the team first and foremost. People that join us develop fast as a whole person in ways they never imagined. ( Read more about our vision and mission).

This approach has allowed us to grow from just 2 people in 2017 to over 170 today (including consultancy) and we are still very much at the beginning! Joining us isn’t just some “job”, it is a transformative educational experience. We challenge you to be your best self in all aspects of life.

Our vision is designed to align how we operate with the fundamental aspects that enable anyone to have a fulfilled life:

  • Connects us with meaningful relationships
  • Inspires us to develop ourselves to become better humans
  • Empowers us to pursue our own learning adventures

4 core values for a good life

We believe a life of human flourishing is all about meaningful relationships with others and challenging yourself to create a positive impact. Our four core values are grow yourself, care about people, execute to greatness and build civilisation. This philosophy goes much deeper and you can see more on our website.

We are achieving this vision through the following two missions:

  1. To fully digitise the construction of human civilisation
  2. To create a new type of organisation that enables human flourishing while delivering a huge positive impact on society

The Role

Purpose of the role

As Digital Construction Implementation Engineer, you’ll be responsible for helping construction organisations successfully adopt our tools on site. This will involve forming relationships with these customers and understanding their specific challenges, conducting training sessions, answering questions about the product, and working with them to identify ways they can get even more benefit from Shape.

You’ll setup our Digital Implementation function to scale. You’ll be particularly involved in gathering feedback from customers and helping the product team use those insights to improve our products.

Digital Implementation at Shape is part of the product team. This is because we know the vital part it has to play in our product development process by being an important piece of our feedback cycle. This means at Shape, you’ll be more likely to collaborate with a designer or engineer, than a sales consultant.

Your top 3 objectives

  1. To enable new customers to adopt Shape’s tools on construction projects and help them overcome the challenges in implementation.
  2. To learn the key challenges in the adoption process and work with the product team to improve the product to solve them for future customers.
  3. To implement a site adoption process that allows the function to scale as the business grows using data backed methods for both enterprise and self-serve customers.

Your top 5 responsibilities

  1. Own relationships: you will own relationships with customers and be responsible for their success adopting Shape on projects. You will be their point of contact for questions and issues. You will work with them proactively to ensure successful implementations.
  2. Monitor customer satisfaction: you will create a mechanism for monitoring customer’s satisfaction using our products.
  3. Collaborate with Product: using your insights gathered implementing Shape in the field, you will work closely with the product development team to improve the product.
  4. Stay up-to-date: the construction industry has unique challenges when it comes to technology adoption. You will be monitoring both the latest in trends in the industry and use this knowledge to become an expert in driving change.
  5. Create materials: You will create materials that both help clients train their teams and contribute to our customer facing knowledge base.

Your Capabilities

You have worked in the construction industry in a site office role. You have probably used tools such as Excel, Word or perhaps construction specific software to manage your day-to-day. You are a clear communicator and are comfortable working with both people working on the front line and senior management to understand what they need from a product. Other people probably come to you when they need help with using software.

As a candidate, you should have:

  • Mastery: Understanding of construction management practices. You’ve worked in a project/ construction management style role and have first-hand experience of using software on construction projects.
  • Communication: A confident and clear communicator. You are comfortable and can empathise with both the people on the tools and senior project leadership.
  • Leadership: A self-starter. Able to work with leaders in the business to agree strategies and goals, and then capable of setting your own agenda to meet them.
  • Impact: You’re the sort of person who creates the Excel or Word template for everyone else to use. You help others get better at embracing digital tools.

Nice to Have (If you don’t have it now you will after joining):

  • Mastery: You have a deep understanding of how to use data to create great onboarding experiences and measure engagement of new users.
  • Communication: Equally capable of engaging with clients on a one-to-one basis and presenting to larger groups
  • Leadership: Capable of leading a team. Capable of recognising what great customer service looks like and empowering others to reach that level
  • Impact: A proven track record of hiring, coaching and developing rising stars. Able to create tools and processes from scratch.

Shape isn’t the place for you if any of the following is true:

  • You want an easy, chilled-out role without much challenge
  • You like to be the smartest person in the room
  • You don’t like continuously receiving honest candid feedback
  • You prefer to do your own thing rather than work with a team

  • Be surrounded by the best: We only hire and retain the very best people. You might be used to being the smartest in the room but that won’t be the case in Shape. With Shape, development is unbounded

We get thousands of applications so please write us a letter as part of your application explaining:

  • Why do you want to join us?
  • If you joined where do you think you could make the most impact and how?

We aren't a giant faceless corporation; we really care about the people who want to join our team so all applications will be read thoroughly by our key leaders.

In terms of application, we usually start with an intro call to tell you what we are all about in a casual conversation. That helps you to know us a bit better and tell us a bit about yourself.

We are bringing our collective experience together to build the digital backbone of a construction organisation, app by app.
