Third Wave Fund
Third Wave Fund resources and supports youth-led, intersectional gender justice activism. Our grantmaking and donor mobilizing advances the community power, well-being, and self-determination of young Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC), most directly impacted by gender oppression.
Who we are
Third Wave Fund is a pioneering philanthropic organization based in New York, USA. Born out of an urgent need to support youth-led, intersectional activism, we focus on advancing gender justice, community self-determination, and equitable access to resources for those affected by systemic oppression. Our organization was established to resource grassroots movements that are multi-issue, community-led, and unapologetically queer, trans, intersex, and sex worker-led. Through responsive grantmaking and donor mobilizing, we have consistently championed social justice in a rapidly changing world.
Our team
Our team may be small—with around 17 passionate professionals—but our impact is mighty. Each member brings unique experience and a shared commitment to challenging injustice and championing change. Our diverse group collaborates closely, innovating in a flexible work environment that features a reduced 32-hour workweek and a four-day schedule. This tight-knit team culture not only fosters creativity but also ensures every voice is heard and valued, reinforcing our commitment to collective empowerment and accountability.
Our values and mission
At Third Wave Fund, our mission is clear: to empower youth-led, intersectional gender justice activism. We translate our vision into action through transparent, participatory grantmaking that targets the very communities most affected by social inequities. Our core values include inclusivity, accountability, innovation, equity, and sustainability. We take pride in our dynamic approach—balancing fast, agile funding with long-term capacity building—to transform philanthropic practices and deliver tangible benefits to grassroots movements. Our work is driven by the belief that when communities control their own resources, true liberation and social change become possible.
